Treatments for Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is one of several important nerves within the leg.

There is one sciatic nerve for each leg.

Each nerve is formed from several smaller nerves or nerve roots.

The nerve roots leave the spine through holes that are very near to the discs.

When a nerve root is irritated, pain will be felt in the leg and that is known as sciatica.

Perhaps the most common cause of sciatica is a slipped disc causing pressure on a nerve root.

The treatment of sciatica depends on the cause.

In the main however sciatica can be treated conservatively, that is to say it is rarely necessary to suggest surgical intervention.

The initial treatment of sciatica in Guildford is with Physiotherapy and pain killers. Sometimes spinal injections are helpful.
